Biddu demonstrates against apartheid

The village of Biddu held a demonstration this week demanding access to their farmlands and a end to the Separation Wall in their village. In 2004, four demonstrators were shot dead by live ammunition in a similar demonstration.

Roughly 50 people gathered near an Israeli placed gate at the edge of the agricultural lands of Biddu on Friday for an unarmed demonstration. Quickly the demonstration turn into chaos as Palestinian youth threw rocks and the Israeli army responded with tear gas and stun grenades. 1. Weekly Protest in Bil’in Continues

The Village of Bil’in is continuing its weekly protest against the Apartheid Wall and the confiscation of land by the Mattiyahu East settlement. The Supreme Court recently ruled that the wall must be moved west to give Bil’in back 250 acres of its land. However, the army thus far seems to be ignoring the order, and the wall still stands. The Supreme Court also recently rejected a petition to stop the construction of another Israeli settlement, Mattiyahu East, on Bil’ins land even further to the west.

Yesterday saw the third in a series of non-violent protest against the Israeli system of Apartheid in the West Bank. 100 Palestinian, Israeli and internationals marched down to the side of Route 443 to convey the message of how Israel is denying Palestinians their rights to free movement within their own territory. They carried green Palestinian license plates with crosses made of Israeli and American flags over them to highlight how the Israeli system of apartheid has full American economic and political support.

Palestinian village celebrates victory over Israeli Apartheid

The 135th demonstration in the village of Bil’in took place yesterday. Normally the demonstrations occur on fridays, but this week something changed all that. This week, we encountered a seismic shift. Three Israeli judges ruled in favor of the villagers, saying the Apartheid Wall, which has been the focus of their weekly demonstrations for over two years, must be moved to grant access to Palestinian land. The villagers responded by having a spontaneous celebration, followed at 4:30pm by a demonstration at the gate to their land. Today the people of Biddu marched to the site of the annexation wall to plant trees in a nearby military area. Biddu has been the site of one of the longest struggles against the wall and has been successful in moving the route of the wall through popular struggle

The demonstration marched through the center of the village to the site of the wall where speakers reaffirmed the commitment to the right of return and the release of Palestinian prisoners.

Where should we go then?

After twenty days of being away from my family, I decided to go and spend two days with them. (By the way, my work is in Ramallah city and my village is 30 minutes away to the south of it)

A few weeks ago, the Israeli government closed Qalandia check point in the face of West Bank Palestinians.

Now we have to seek alternative roads to our homes and families.

Non violent activist faces 11th court appearance

On February 8, Palestinian activist Mohammad Mansour made his 11th court appearance relating to “crimes” committed at a demonstration in 2004. For over a year-and-a-half, Mohammad Mansour has been repeatedly required to appear before Judge Ron Alexander of the Israeli “peace” court in Jerusalem. He has been accused of throwing stones, encouraging others to throw stones and being involved in “illegal demonstrations” inside the West Bank.
